Level 2 & 3 Outdoor Learning combined

Message about Covid

We know the positive impact Forest School and Outdoor Learning have on mental health and well-being so have made it our priority to organise new training course dates. To ensure  we meet current government safety guidelines for education, we have worked hard to put safety measures in place so we can safely resume our training courses such as working outdoors as much as possible, keeping course numbers low, adapting how we teach, allowing space for social distancing and providing individual resource packs.

About this course

Outdoor Learning is also proven to dramatically improve attainment for children (see our research page). Also, job satisfaction for teachers. In order to encourage more schools to embrace this teaching style, we offer an accredited Level 2 & 3  Outdoor Learning course This 4 day course includes the Level 2 Outdoor Learning Practitioner  which, unless you have it already, is a prerequisite to the level 3 course. If you want to establish Outdoor Learning as a whole school approach, this is the training for you. It is aimed at teachers and head teachers and Outdoor Learning leaders. All in all, you will be fully qualified to co-ordinate Outdoor Learning as a whole school approach. In fact, this combined course works out cheaper than doing the level 2 and 3 separately.

The Level 2 & Level 3 combined training follows the units for both courses.

Level 2 Outdoor Learning Practitioner

Outdoor Learning Practitioner

Mapping outdoor learning activities and developing your Outdoor area. Also, planning and leading sessions. In addition, we focus on how to manage risk when working outside.

Sustainable Use of Natural Resources

Studying the natural environment then planning how to use your natural environment for Outdoor Learning. Using your site in a sustainable way and looking at the impact on the environment of using natural resources . We teach you about different flora and fauna as well as about how to use flora and fauna in your work.

Level 3 Outdoor Learning Coordinator

Outdoor Curriculum Coordinator

We will focus on planning an annual programme of Outdoor Learning so as to teach it across the school. For this reason, you will develop policies, procedures and risk assessments that support your work. We look at how learning in the natural environment can contribute to attainment, health and well-being and therefore maximise the benefits you will bring to your school.

Supporting Learning, Play and Development in a Natural Environment

In addition to the Level 2 work, this unit will further your understanding of learning, play and development in the natural environment and similarly look at education theories and holistic learning. Also, developing self confidence and self esteem. This includes identifying strategies to encourage positive behavior when learning outdoors

Sustainable Use and Management of Natural Resources

Again, this unit builds on the Level 2 course. You will deepen your understanding of eco-systems specifically studying the natural environment and how it will support Outdoor Learning.  We look at the history of woodlands and sustainability in order to manage your site effectively.
